The ingame music from the first Settlers game, released in 1994, I discovered this one in 2002 on a gaming magazine's CD. I had played Settlers 2 some years before, and found it to be a pretty nice game... but this first game was just unplayable for me. It was so slow, there was no onscreen text, just these weird graphics, and you couldn't know all the mouse controls without reading the PDF manual...
So, the only thing I remembered of this game was this awesome piece of ingame music. Like most DOS games, Settlers 1 sounds better on a good SoundBlaster card, which I fortunately happened to own back then. And how awesome it sounded (and still does)! Since it's just GM, there aren't many possibilities for effects, so this is pretty much the best sound you can get from this card.
I even remember calling this the best song ever composed by any human being after first hearing it! The blend of a medieval composition with those synth sounds is incredibly awesome, and I think that it also established my love for synth bells, pads and similar instrument voices.
6th video to get over 9.000 views. Thank you for listening!
... Also, why did so many viking metal bands cover this song?
