I had the pleasure to compose the song that plays during the Metal Sonic fight, and had a lot of fun pushing my musician limits haha. I thought it would be interesting to share some fun facts about this one with you all.

First of all, the original Stardust Speedway song has the "HIT IT!" sample, so we thought it be cool if you actually had to hit the enemy every time you hear it. If you pay close attention, the sample appears every time the traffic light shows up. The song itself LITERALLY teaches you how to play lol.

The second fun fact is how Metal Sonic and Sonic's voices were handled, for instance, Metal Sonic does a lot of aggressive pitch slides that only a machine would be able to perform, not to mention that his notes don't have any release nor vibratos at all; on the other hand, Sonic needed to sound more organic, so I used natural vibratos, softer slides, and note releases.

Another cool little detail is how the past section references the Stardust Speedway past theme, not only in instrumentation but also in arrangement, as the bass line follows the same logic as said song, same thing with the piano and drum patterns.

The different endings not only reference their respective songs from Sonic CD, but also follow the same gameplay philosophy, where the good future is a more relaxed song with not much to worry about besides playing some notes and grabbing a couple rings, and the bad future variant was meant to punish the player for not defeating Metal, adding a lot of hazards to the stage and difficult voice lines to defeat you, and even if you think you managed to clear it, Metal still wins the race last second lol.

Some samples have funny origins as well lol, for example, the "GO!" sample heard during the first warp to the past comes from Smash Mouth's "All Star" lmao, we were just messing around with the song one day, and it sounded so good with these lyrics on top that we had to add it to the sound test as a joke too lol.

We also made metal play a lot of his iconic samples using his "voice" before traveling to the past because we conceptualized him as being like a broken radio, kinda like how Bumblebee communicates in the Transformers movies.

Now for Metal Sonic's actual intelligible words, we thought that having him predicting what's ahead would be a good way to make the level way more fair to the player, so we had him saying UP UP DOWN DOWN over and over again lol, he also says "ALL SYSTEMS POWER UP!" before getting serious, "DON'T" whenever rings appear on screen (cause he obviously wouldn't want you to grab them), and "EXECUTEEE!" as a double meaning word, either referring to executing his battle routine or executing Sonic, what does he really want to say?? That's up to you haha.

Another highlight is definitely his rap section, which is mostly Metal roasting Sonic in all the ways imaginable; however some lyrics carry more meaning than that, for example, "it's strange" is a reference to the OVA; "take off the mask, imitating the glory of the fastest thing alive" might sound out of character for Metal, but let's remember that he thinks he's the real Sonic and that the real one is a faker; "nemesis in Genesis" is pretty obvious haha; and finally "DEAD OR ALIVE YOU WILL BE MINE-E-E-E" is a reference to the Metallic Madness theme ("Sonic, dead or alive, he's m-m-mine").

Thank you so much for listening! We hope you can enjoy the mod as much as we enjoyed working on it, make sure to share it with your friends please!!!
