Have you listened to the Sonic 1/2 enhanced soundtrack from the Christian Whitehead ports? With this subtle remaster, I was trying to do something similar. I added some reverb to some of the channels, increased the treble and the low/mid range, along with layering faint synth pads. Hi-hats and crash cymbals were added to give this track more boldness.
