About the song:
I've been working on two other Classic Sonic songs for longer, I don't get how I finished this one faster, I was just experimenting with some weird instruments I've seen before and then somehow I was done already. Consider the instrumentation highly experimental, not only did I go out of my way to make it strange, I also had fun messing with the operators and stuff.

So, there's and instrument going WUH-WOO-WUH-WOO (better heard at 0:11)... at first it was just some timpani, but I wanted to have them uninterrupted (which means they must be FM), so I looked for some Wonderboy instruments 'cus I remembered it had some good percussion, and I found that thing, edited it a bit and it was perfect. Also, the "pipes" at the beginning were a last minute thing, I looked for something like percussion with static, found something like that and edited the hell out of it, I have no idea how or why it worked.

About the picture:
It's really not that representative of the level, I just used a bunch of Sonic Crackers sprites I still had, tried to put as much on screen as I could, and tried to make it look entertaining. I was about to use the Metropolis Zone giant cog, but I got lazy and looked if I had it somewhere else in my other files to not have to rip it again, and I saw the Scrap Brain wheel and it made much more sense to have that instead. Well, I was already playing Metropolis before that happened and I still wanted to rip some sprites, so that's where I got the idea of using the moving floor somewhere in the pic, though I first thought of putting spikes below it, but then I realized it made more sense to have the electric thing instead. And there I was, playing Death Egg Zone thinking of what could make it look more like Iron Fortress, and I saw the little missiles and got the idea.
