It's been a while coming, and finally, UB-666 has been remastered! And with it, is the obligatory updated fan-lore:
when UB-777 "God" created the universe, they had created 4 fractions of themselves as beings that operate the world as we know it. They created Arceus to manage reality, they created Palkia to manage space, and they created Dialga to manage time.
UB-666 was created to manage and control antimatter, to bring balance to all of this creation, as an opposite to the other 3, but it hadn't gone so well.
It was in UB-666's own nature to crave destruction and chaos. UB-666 ate all that was creation, and hungered for all matter of time, space, and reality. This became far too troublesome for UB-777, so UB-666 was stripped of their power, becoming Giratina as we know them, and cast away into the distortion world in an eternal prison.
